Is online marriage legal?

Yes, it is. As of 2020, online marriage is 100% legal in the US through Utah. Now, people around the world can get married completely online. There’s no need to put ink to paper or step foot in the courthouse to get a legal, US marriage certificate!

Who can use Courtly?

Any consenting adult who is 1) 18 or older, 2) not currently married, and 3) hasn’t been divorced in the last 60 days. All you need is a valid government ID, a webcam, and a stable internet connection.

Do you offer rush processing?

Yes, we do! Normally online ceremonies are scheduled within 1-2 weeks, but rush processing cuts that down to 24 hours! Plus, if we are unable to schedule you within 24 hours, you'll get your money back.

Note: The 24-hour guarantee begins after we've received your approved marriage license.

Do I need to be a US Citizen?

Nope! Any nationality is legally allowed to get married in the United States.

International couples may also consider getting an apostille or authentication with their marriage certificate. An Apostille is a special certificate, issued by the Secretary of State or the Office of the Lieutenant Governor, that allows a legal document created in one country to be recognized in another country.

Can same-sex couples get married on Courtly?

Absolutely! We’ve married thousands of same-sex couples around the world! Many couples use Courtly to bypass anti-LGBTQ+ laws in their country. It’s useful because a marriage certificate from Courtly will be valid in any country that currently allows same-sex marriage. Here’s a full list of countries that allow same-sex marriage. Although it won’t be valid in countries that have not legalized it yet, it is still a strong, symbolic, and legally-binding document that represents a lifetime commitment.

Will my country recognize an online marriage?

Couples who have an online marriage with Courtly are considered legally married in the United States. That U.S. marriage certificate can often be used in other countries to prove marital status. While most countries do not require couples to officially register a marriage performed abroad, some may have specific requirements.

For couples with international ties, we have compiled a list of countries where government officials have previously indicated they do not accept U.S. marriage certificates if the ceremony was conducted online. How much does it cost to get married on Courtly?

Yes, we do! Courtly’s affordable elopement package includes an online ceremony with certified officiant, video recording, and legal, US marriage certificate. You can customize your package by selecting the add-ons you need during your application.

If you plan to elope abroad, that's no problem either! With Courtly, couples can complete the entire process online—from anywhere in the world.

Do my partner and I have to be in the same location?

Nope! We’ve successfully and legally married thousands of couples where one partner is in one country and the other is thousands of miles away!

What is your satisfaction guarantee?

We offer a full refund up until your online ceremony. We do not offer refunds after you complete your ceremony. If for any reason you are unhappy with your service, please let us know and we'll work with you to resolve your concern.

Do you offer payment plans?

We offer a number of payment methods including Buy Now Pay Later (BNPL) providers like Afterpay, Klarna, and more. Our goal is to make marriage as affordable as possible and accessible for the majority of couples around the world.

Do I need a Fiancé Visa to get married with Courtly?

No, you don’t need a fiancé visa to get married with Courtly. Courtly allows couples to get legally married online without the need for either party to be physically present in the same country. This means you can get married even if you’re in different locations, bypassing the traditional requirements of a Fiancé Visa. However, if you’re planning to live together in a country afterward, you may need to look into the relevant visa or residency permits for that country. Does Courtly offer Name Change assistance?

Yes, Courtly offers name change assistance for all newlyweds in the U.S., whether you were married through our service or not!
